The news just comes daily. It does not stop. Every 24 hours it seems, there’s yet another mention of an American hero or cultural icon who has been scrubbed from a government website. The last such victim was none other than the remarkable and esteemed, late baseball great, Jackie Robinson.
The Black man who officially integrated major league baseball on August 15, 1947.
Robinson was scrubbed right off the Department of Defense website. This during a dramatic purge of all DEI content that is occurring across many governmental agencies at the moment.
Incredible.
Jackie Robinson is such an iconic figure in American history that his erasure was noticeable and spawned immediate outrage. Just as Robinson’s contribution to the cultural milieu of this nation, is as much about race, it is also about fairness, and justice, and economic opportunity.
Goals all Americans can relate to, regardless of their personal backgrounds or skin color.
There was a quick reversal of DOD mistake and Robinson’s mention was quickly restored. The Department of Defense claimed the erasure was simply an error, and the department provided no sensical explanation beyond the claim that that the removal of content related to diversity, equity and inclusion, is ongoing, and that mistakes are likely to occur.
Yeah, blah, hlah, blah whatever.
The officials at DOD are not to blame. There wasn’t a problem with people of color being honored on government websites, until Donald Trump began his second term.
The whiff of Project 2025 is in the air, isn’t it?
Trump 2.0 is two months in, and the goals of this new administration are strange indeed. There is talk, of course, from Trump himself, and other members of his administration, about the economy, and about the United States regaining respect from trading partners. The inconvenient and costly Ukrainian war must end with the help of Donald’s good buddy Vladimir Putin, and American streets must be cleared of illegal immigrants, who do not belong here.
According to Trump.
But there is also a parallel agenda that is equally as ominous and disturbing. The mere mention of race, whether in a positive, or a negative manner, is somehow threatening to the new order of we don’t talk about those kinds of things, that Trump, seems desperate to implement. The unspoken goal is to reestablish the USA as a prosperous Christian country run by competent white men. Period.
Whatever else could the reason be?
The struggles of non-white peoples against racism, and other cultural and economic barriers isn’t even important or noteworthy. As crazy at that sounds in a nation as diverse as the United States, this seems
to be the plan, and consider, this is real life and not a movie script.
Strong words challenging – unfair to whites – DEI policies at major colleges and universities, at Fortune 500 companies, and at consequential contractors that do business with the federal government is how the effort is framed. Even highly respected and powerful law firms have felt the heat of the Trump’s administration’s disapproval.
All diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, must end. Comply or lose out.
The white-washinhg of American is at full thottle.
As more and more mentions of people of color disappear from the nation’s government-owned web properties, this a moment to consider that what Trump is doing, wouldn’t have been possible during his first term. The normalization of this protocol-busting idiot has allowed him to get away with more, and more injustices that would have been incomprehensible during the nation’s entire forty-six previous presidencies.
There is so much going on politically, in America right now, that it is hard to keep up. Missing a day, is like missing a month during normal times.
As of this moment, no real constitutional crisis has been created under Trump 2.0. The anti-DEI rage at the White House seems minor in comparison to what could happen in the coming years, with government under the control of a man who respects no boundaries, and who believes he’s entitled to do as he wishes, because he won the last election and received a mandate from the American people.
Trump received less than 50% of the popular vote and he earned no mandate despite his claim..
In reality, Trump 2.0 is a chaotic throw mud at the wall and see what happens presidency. He wants, what he wants, but in chaos, Donald Trump is seeking to overwhelm the national news media, and to exceed the public’s ability to comprehend and digest important political issues. It’s as if, he’s creating an environment where everyone is shouting loudly at the same time.
When everyone is shouting. No one is listening.
That’s the point.
America is indeed a white country by default. There is no disputing that fact. It is simply reality.
White culture is the dominant force in public life. Donald Trump wants to make it even more so. His non-sensical battle against DEI is merely a means to an end. The goal is the establishment of a white evangelical Christian world view across the entire breadth of this nation that cannot be challenged, and that has a social hierarchy that is a white supremacist’s dream come true.
The attempted erasure of the contributions and struggles of people of color from the public record, if not our nation’s history books, is unjust, cruel, insensitive and quite frankly, evil.
